What is beauty? Many people might question themselves that just because of beauty standards nowadays. Do those beauty standards make you feel unconfident or worried too much to have fun with dressing up?

You are great, nobody perfect

Interview : Projects

What we are trying to do is to build up everyone’s  confidence so let’s meet someone who could inspire you. Her name is Fafu, a talented one  with singing and dancing skills.

Q: Our first question is are you interested in fashion usually?

A: I’m quite interested in fashion but I’m not that fashionista. I’d love to dress in my own style and follow fashion trends sometimes.

Q: Yes, we know that you really own a unique style. Do you think about how beauty standards affect how you dress?

A: Sometimes. I want to wear crop top but I don’t have a good figure according to beauty standards so that makes me unconfident concerning that my belly would come out. And I  have tan skin. When I was young, I’ve been told that tan skin doesn’t fit with colorful clothes,  but I do love colorful clothes so when growing up, I don’t care anymore. Just wear whatever  I want. I might feel unconfident sometimes but having people around me cheering up really helps me feel more confident.

Let’s meet someone who could inspire you. Mint, a third-year media student of  Journalism and Mass Communication Faculty at Thammasat University

Q: Let’s start with the first question. Are you usually interested in fashion?

A: I really love fashion! If I’m not too tired, I always get well-dressed because I could feel my energy with it.

GOOD SOCIETY MATTER

Q: We could see that you’re full of confidence. Do you think about how beauty standards affect how you dress?

A: I think it affects a lot. Actually, I’m not so confident but I’m more confident than when I was in the past. When I was younger, I afraid of dressing up, wearing only loose dark-colored clothes because it has a stereotype that people who have overweight must dress like this. If I dress differently, I will look fatter or not looking good. It makes me feel unconfident. I just felt more confident a few years ago when I joined JC (Journalism and  Mass Communication Faculty) because the mindset of people in the faculty about beauty standards is wide-opened, unlike my old society. I think the new society makes me more confident to dress up.

Confident? YES!

Q: Well, what are the things that you feel most confident in yourself?

A: I’m quite confident with my sense of matching like clothing style and color matching.  Maybe it’s because I love arts such as drawing, painting, and watching them a lot but it’s doesn’t mean that sense of other people is not good. It just really suits my style.

Q: Yes! We could see that in your make-up too. We really like that! Well, have you faced situations that lose your confidence?

A: Thank you. I really appreciate it. And yes, I have very often. Mostly I lose my confidence with the words of people around me. Sometimes, I intend to dress and put on makeup but when someone says it’s not good, not beautiful, what are you wearing? something like this, I  will feel upset and lose my confidence. Besides, people’s eyes looking at me make me lose confidence sometimes but mainly because of people’s words especially from friends and family.

Insecurity is normal

Q: How do you build up your confidence?

A: Even if there are bad words but I still have a lot of supportive people around me trying to encourage me. I think that can boost up my confidence. Or if I’m in a situation that no one around me, I will watch self-love on social media because there is a lot of this kind of content on media. I think it helps everyone to be confident.

Q: Finally, do you want to tell something to whoever feeling not confident with themselves?

A: I want to tell you that insecurity in yourselves is normal. You would feel confident with this but not with that. When we do something new, it’s normal for everyone that you would feel unconfident, but I want everyone to open up to do it. At first, you might feel not confident at all but if you do it many times and get used to it, you will have more confidence for sure and be kind to yourself, give yourself a chance to do something new. Don’t let the insecurity make you miss the chance to do whatever you want.
